Message from our Camp Coordinator

Joseph Lucia, Camp Coordinator

Upper Canada Child Care (UCCC) has a rich history of operating quality summer camps in the GTA for over 35 years and our success has been the result of continually adapting to the ever-changing needs of campers, always improving and striving to provide the best licensed environment for your children. The current COVID-19 response has also presented us with new challenges for UCCC’s reopening, and we are embracing the challenge.

We have begun resuming child care services now that the Ontario Government has lifted the emergency orders and permitted our gradual reopening. Please be assured that we are complying with the guidelines required by the government to maintain a safe and healthy environment. As per the guidelines our programs are limited in the number of children for which we are permitted to provide care. While our centres have always followed sanitary practices, we are now implementing screenings and heightened measures. Our protocols have had to change, but the quality of care will remain constant. Following the new guidelines will allow everyone to have a smoother adjustment when returning to the child care centre.

Traditionally, an integral portion of our summer camp programming is our weekly day trips to places like beaches and conservation areas. This year, UCCC made the difficult decision to cancel camp trips. However, we are taking this opportunity to focus on in-house programming to create more diverse and enriching camp experiences within our centres. We will continue to spark curiosity and exploration encouraging campers to try new experiences, fostering each child’s individual strengths and self-esteem, all in a safe and healthy environment.

At UCCC Camps we are also focused on staff development to ensure we are providing the best camp possible for your child. Our summer camp staff participate in extensive training to develop: new ways of making connections, and further skills in working with exceptionalities and creating an environment which promotes child-led programming. We believe that a good balance between pre-planned and child-led experiences, and following the guidelines for reopening will ensure a great summer camp. It will take all of us being mindful and respectful of the guidelines every day to be successful. The safety of our child care community is a big responsibility but by taking the time to follow the rules daily, we will continue to protect each other and our families. Here's to a safe, healthy, fun summer!
-Joseph Lucia

Kettleby Valley Residential Camp and Outdoor Education

The small group Residential Camp ensures that each child receives individual attention and care. Campfires, night hikes, skits, stories and many other traditional events make the camper's experience one to remember for many years.

The Canoe Tripping program provides an enriched experience for older campers, furthering their skills in group problem-solving and decision-making.

The Leader-in-Training program gives campers opportunities to learn the skills necessary to lead games, instruct activities and become great Counsellors.

The Outdoor Centre offers educational programs for schools, corporations and other organized groups from September through June.
